Towns and communities around Prescott Valley, Arizona and in the Verde Valley, with the entity, license and permit records a funding partner may check for a business in each.
Yavapai County, AZ Business License Search: What a Lender Actually Checks
There is no single business license search that covers every business in the county. A partner checking a Yavapai County, AZ business usually looks at three things instead: the entity record, any license the trade requires, and any local license or permit where the business operates.
For corporations and LLCs, the entity record sits with the Arizona Corporation Commission, whose Arizona Business Center offers a business search (read October 2026). Trade licenses, such as a contractor license or a liquor license, sit with the state agency for that trade. A business selling taxable goods or services is commonly asked for its state transaction privilege tax license number.
Having those numbers ready shortens the review, because the partner does not have to ask for them one at a time.
Yavapai County, AZ Business Search for a Company You Plan to Buy
Before buying a business, check that the entity exists and is in good standing. The Arizona Corporation Commission business search shows the entity's status, its statutory agent and its filing history. A name that does not appear, or appears as inactive, is a question for the seller before any offer.
A buyer also checks for liens on the business's assets, because equipment or receivables pledged to someone else may not pass cleanly to the new owner. A funding partner runs its own lien search before it lends against those assets.
Dewey-Humboldt, AZ, Mayer, AZ and Paulden, AZ Without Separate Pages
Dewey-Humboldt, AZ is an incorporated town without a USPS ZIP of its own in the Census business data, so no town business count can be shown for it. Mayer, AZ and Paulden, AZ are unincorporated communities. ZIP 86333, the Mayer ZIP, had 40 employer establishments in 2023 and ZIP 86334, the Paulden ZIP, 53 (ZIP Code Business Patterns), but Mayer covers only about 4.0% of its ZIP's land and Paulden about 19.4%, so those counts describe wider rural areas, not the communities.
Businesses in all three use the same phone line and form. In the unincorporated communities, building permits come from the county rather than from a town, which is covered below.
Clarkdale, AZ, Jerome, AZ and Cottonwood, AZ in the Verde Valley
Clarkdale, AZ and Jerome, AZ are small Verde Valley towns. ZIP 86324, the Clarkdale ZIP, had 96 employer establishments in 2023 and ZIP 86331, the Jerome ZIP, 49, but the towns cover only about 3.5% and 11.8% of those ZIPs' land. Retail and accommodation and food services led the Jerome ZIP's short list of published sectors.
Cottonwood, AZ is larger. ZIP 86326 had 725 employer establishments in 2023, led by health care and social assistance with 127, retail trade with 101 and construction with 94. Cottonwood covers about 34.0% of that ZIP's land, so these are ZIP figures, not city figures. A Cottonwood, AZ page is planned with its own records.
County Permits Outside Town Limits in Yavapai County, AZ
Yavapai County Development Services states that its Customer Service and Permitting Unit takes in, processes and issues permits for the unincorporated areas of the county, and that permits for buildings, structures and grading are required throughout those areas (read October 2026). It lists two offices: the Commerce Drive annex, request line (928) 771-3214, and the Cottonwood annex at 10 South 6th Street, request line (928) 639-8151.
Parcels inside an incorporated town, such as Prescott Valley, AZ, go to that town instead. Knowing which side of the town limit a site sits on matters before a lease or an upfit budget, because it decides which office reviews the plans.
